Quinnipiac University is pleased to welcome ambitious high school students who are ready to explore what their college experience might look like. Thanks to a strong partnership with the New Haven Promise, eligible high school students may now apply for and receive tuition support for select on-campus programs this summer at QU. 

Why should high school students consider a Quinnipiac summer program?

Our summer programs offer high school students the opportunity to:

  • Explore topics of interest at the college level, free from college-level pressure

  • Experience living and learning on a college campus

  • Build a portfolio of work within an academic field of interest

  • Connect personally with Quinnipiac faculty, staff and other students

  • Build high-demand soft skills, such as communication, critical thinking and confidence

  • Earn valuable certifications and experience to add to a resume

Eligible Programs for Summer 2025

July 7 - July 18, 2025

Program Overview

The Healthcare Career Exploration Academy introduces high school students to ten different healthcare disciplines to make it easier to decide which degree program matches their skills and interests. Students will learn about career opportunities within allied health professions, gain certification in health-related skills and earn two credits that will transfer to Quinnipiac University.

At the end of the program, you’ll walk away with:

  • Three Certifications: Basic First Aid and CPR, Stop the Bleed and Teen Mental Health First Aid

  • The opportunity to earn up to two (2) college credits transferable to Quinnipiac University

  • Foundational knowledge in interprofessional education and experience with patient simulation

  • Hands-on, skill-building experiences within specific health professions, including but not limited to: measuring vital signs, performing suturing techniques, clinical lab anatomy and dissection, acquiring bench research skills with DNA testing, gait and transfer training, fabrication of custom orthoses and splints, diagnostic imaging, nutrition/dietary with hands on cooking

  • An understanding of health profession career options, and knowledge of how different professions use their skills and expertise to solve problems across the healthcare industry

Program Costs

All programs are fully funded thanks to the partnership between New Haven Promise and Quinnipiac University. Programming includes:

  • Two weeks of faculty-designed and delivered programming with educational support staff and program materials

  • Technology and software support

  • A Quinnipiac T-shirt

  • A digital badge for use on social media, resumes or portfolios

  • Access to special Quinnipiac Admissions events

  • Two academic credits

Participation Requirements

Participants must be current high school students. Typically, participants are between the ages of 15 to 18 years of age at the start of the program. Quinnipiac University will provide all required materials, including laptops, for students within this program. Students are welcome to bring their own laptops or other devices for use outside of instruction periods or with the approval of their instructor.

July 14 - July 18 or July 21 - July 25, 2025

Program Overview

This summer, Quinnipiac is offering the perfect one-week program that gets your ready for a career in sports. Want to sit behind the anchor desk of SportsCenter? Create social media for the NFL or WNBA? Come up with advertising campaigns for your favorite team or athlete? Make the next great sports documentary? The opportunities to work in sports are limitless! This camp covers all of it and shines a light on the opportunities to put yourself on the sidelines or in the press box.

At the end of the program, you’ll walk away with:

  • A comprehensive understanding of the careers available in sports

  • Sports storytelling skills across video, audio and written platforms

  • A firm grip on different disciplines, including sports journalism, advertising/public relations, social media, film and television and more

  • Hands-on experience conducting interviews

  • Meaningful relationships with working professionals embedded in the sports industry

July 14 - July 18, 2025

Program Overview

This fast-paced program is open to high school students who dream of telling their stories across all types of media platforms. Participants will work with award-winning media professionals and use our industry-standard cameras and editing suites to translate their creative ideas into engaging short films and video pieces.

At the end of the program, you’ll walk away with:

  • The ability to create dynamic and diverse media content for all types of audiences

  • A comprehensive experience working in a team environment with others who share your passions

  • Skills in producing, scripting, cinematography and post-production

  • Professional content you can use on your own social media channels or in portfolios for applications to college-level programs

Program Costs

July 28 - August 1, 2025

Program Overview

This summer program introduces high school students to the nursing profession. Students will spend the week in our state-of-the-art facilities, learning how to perform various skills such as IV therapy, wound care, airway suctioning and injection of medications as they participate in high-fidelity simulations.

At the end of the program, you’ll walk away with:

  • An appreciation for the many different opportunities within the nursing field

  • An understanding of key medical terminology

  • Hands-on skills and training for nursing care

  • A strong grasp of care across the continuum, including outpatient, emergency department, operating room (OR) and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) areas

  • Familiarity with the administration of treatments including IV therapy, wound care, airway suctioning, medication, injections and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Networking opportunities and professional feedback from working professionals

Accommodations
