Dr. Tilley completed his PhD in Nursing Research and Theory Development from New York University in 2022. He previously earned a Master of Science in Adult Nursing Education from Sage College and a post-master's certificate in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing from LaSalle University. Dr. Tilley is also a board-certified Adult and Pain and Palliative Nurse Practitioner and an Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (ACHPN®).

Dr. Tilley is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE®) with over 17 years of simulation education experience and publishes, presents locally and nationally, and actively conducts research in the field of simulation science. Dr. Tilley's 35 years of clinical experience includes roles as a Hospice Attending, Palliative Care Consultant, Certified Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (CWOCN®), outpatient oncology nurse, and critical care nurse as well as multiple Nursing Leadership positions.

Dr. Tilley's program of research spans the fields of palliative oncology, palliative wound care, symptom science, hospice workforce development, and simulation outcomes. He has received grants from the American Cancer Society, The Calvary Fund, and The Hugoton Foundation to study the symptom experience of patients with advanced cancer and malignant fungating wounds and simulation outcomes. Dr. Tilley has published extensively on topics pertaining to palliative wound, ostomy, and continence research and interventions, malignant fungating wound microbiome, lymphedema, simulation curriculum quality improvement, simulation science, and advanced practice palliative care nursing education.

Currently, Dr. Tilley is the Principal Investigator on a qualitative study, New Graduate Midwives Perceived Competence after a Simulated Perinatal Palliative Care Experience: A Phenomenological Study, funded by The Hugoton Foundation and The Impact of Co-occurring Cancer-Related and Wound-Specific Symptoms on Functional Performance and Quality of Life among Adults with Advanced Cancer and Malignant Fungating Wounds: An Observational, Longitudinal, Mixed-Methods Study, funded by the Calvary Fund.
