James F Kirby
Associate Professor of Chemistry
Dr. James Kirby received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with Honors in Chemistry from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He proceeded to the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, where he earned the Master of Education in Instructional Learning. After a brief stint as a High School Chemistry teacher, Mr. Kirby decided to go to a Ph. D. program to become a college teacher. He attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC. There, he worked under Dr. Louis C. W. Baker, the preeminent expert on heteropolyanions (now mostly referred to as polyoxometalates). He earned his Ph. D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Georgetown in 1993. While completing his Ph. D., he began teaching as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the College of William & Mary. From there, he took his first tenure track job at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. For family reasons, he left that job to come to Quinnipiac University in 1996, where he has been since.
Jim has been active lecturing and cantoring/singing at his Church and helping with Cheshire's Lights of Hope in recent years.
