Kelly M Crusio, Ph.D

Associate Professor of Medical Sciences

Kelly Moran Crusio received her PhD in Immunology and Microbiology from Georgetown University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Leiden University Medical Center in The Netherlands where she she studied Coronaviruses and developed strategies to detect novel and emerging Coronaviruses. She then went on to study role of epigenetics in both hematopoiesis and malignancy at New York University Langone Medical Center. There she described an epigenetic modifier, Tet2, as a novel tumor suppressor and its role in initiating leukemia.

In 2016, Dr. Crusio joined the faculty at the Frank H. Netter, MD school of medicine. Currently, she is an associate professor in the Medical Sciences department. She is a block co-director for both the Hematology Oncology block as well as the Fundamentals block within the Foundations of Medicine course. She is also a co-director for the Basic Translational Clinical Research (BTCR) concentration for the Scholarly Reflection Capstone Course. She teaches immunology and microbiology broadly across the Foundations of Medicine and Scholarly Reflection Capstone courses.

She is the 2023 recipient of the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine Excellence in Medical Sciences Educator Award.

Currently, her lab focuses on studying epigenetic modifiers and describing their role in cell fate decisions.
