Professor of Nursing
Prior to his arrival at Quinnipiac, Slater served as associate dean for academic programs and a clinical professor at the University of Memphis Loewenberg College of Nursing. He also served as interim dean from 2021-22.
Slater is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the New York Academy of Medicine. He is a certified nurse educator through the National League for Nursing and a board-certified registered gerontological nurse through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. He has received numerous awards for teaching excellence, including from New York University (Teaching Excellence Award), the American Nurses Association-New York (Nursing Education Award) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (Novice Faculty Excellence in Didactic Teaching).
Slater received his Bachelor of Science in nursing and his PhD in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing, where he completed his post-doctoral training examining social support, health, and quality of life in older adults living with HIV/AIDS. He also earned a Master of Accounting from the Collat School of Business at UAB.
