Lynn K. Byers, PE
Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Director of Mechanical Engineering Program
Lynn Byers earned her bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and her master of science and PhD in aerospace engineering from The Pennsylvania State University.
Byers began her teaching career in 2008 as academy professor in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at West Point, where she later served as the program director from 2010-11. She joined the Quinnipiac faculty in 2013 and led the development of the mechanical engineering program, including its initial ABET program accreditation. She has been a professor of mechanical engineering since 2013, and served as both mechanical engineering program director and chair of the department of engineering from 2013-21. Byers was appointed the school's interim dean in 2021.
Byers is a licensed professional engineer, and a rated pilot in both helicopters and airplanes. Prior to her career in academia, she served in the U.S. Army for 26 years in the United States, Germany and Japan. She has presented scholarship on engineering education research at numerous national conferences, including the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition.
