Prepare for the FAFSA to Open
Below are some ways you can get ready for the FAFSA to open on December 1.
New incoming students
Returning students
If you are a returning student, the Department of Education will email students (and parents of dependent students) who applied on the 2024–25 form, reminding them to apply for 2025–26. To ensure you receive updates, log into your StudentAid.gov account and confirm we have your current email address.
Preparing and Planning Ahead
To complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA application, students should collect the following documents from each contributor* prior to beginning the application form.
-
Name, date of birth, Social Security number and email addresses
-
2023 federal tax returns and W2s
-
Current balances of cash in checking and savings accounts
-
Records of child support received
-
Net worth of investments, businesses and farms
