“It feels almost unreal to win the championship in our first year as a program,” said the team’s MVP Thomas Young ‘24. “This was beyond my expectations for a first-year team, and I could not be more proud of our whole team.”
The team was established last March — and quickly established a record of excellence.
Young said the team has benefited players both on and off the court.
“This team accentuates the Quinnipiac experience in the way we came together as a family so quickly,” Young said. “We were able to become such a uniform team in just a few months and that is one of the reasons we were able to bring home this trophy. This club enabled all of us to find a social outlet and we have all found our place on this team.”
Director of Campus Life for Recreation Mike Medina is impressed at how well the team pulled all their victories during their first year.
“The team took huge steps in growth this season by recruiting a roster from scratch and competing in multiple tournaments throughout the Northeast to peak for their regional tournament,” said Medina.
The club hopes to continue to grow and eventually level up to Division I. Young feels inspired by the hard work him and his teammates executed on the court this year.
“My biggest takeaway from this season is that if you have the right energy, teamwork and commitment, anything is possible,” he said. “Our team came in as underdogs in this tournament, but we did not let that stop us and we ended up going undefeated.”
A $500 FAFSA Incentive Grant will be applied to the financial aid offer of admitted first-year students who complete the FAFSA by January 15, 2025.
