Not a stranger to public service, Audrey Sheehan ’26 has taken on a new role this summer as a Quinnipiac Presidential Public Service Fellow in the Hamden Police Department.

Wanting to pursue a career in criminal law, Sheehan recognized the importance of taking on the role of a fellow and all that she could learn from the Hamden Police Department.

During her time with the police department, Sheehan has been learning about the different aspects of law enforcement agencies. From fieldwork and ride along with patrol officers to attending department events and trainings, she feels that she has gained a vast amount of experience and knowledge.

With previous experience in public service from roles in her hometown, Sheehan has felt that the program has allowed her to comprehend and appreciate the complexities of the law enforcement system.

The law in society major, with minors in biology and political science, has combined her studies with her work at the police departments, strengthening her desire to work in law enforcement.

Feeling that the role keeps her on her toes, Sheehan has taken on her position as a new adventure where she is trying to learn as much as possible while making new connections.

Each day brings Sheehan something new to learn and experience while allowing her to make an impact and further cement the impact she wants to make in the future.

“This fellowship has so much to offer younger generations — hands-on-experience in a professional setting, insight from leaders in politics and government, the ability to gain new skills, and most importantly: a shift in perspective,” said Sheehan. “I hope that more students seek out of this opportunity in the future, I have gained so much from this experience already and it has only just begun!”
