Quinnipiac University will host 23 junior archaeologists from Hamden’s Alice Peck Learning School from 10 a.m.-noon Monday, Dec. 5., on the Mount Carmel Campus.

The students are in the talented and gifted program and have studied archaeology. They will dig for and examine skeletal remains, study X-rays, learn about mummies, write their names in hieroglyphics and draw cave art.

The anthropology outreach program is co-sponsored by Quinnipiac’s anthropology program and the university’s Bristol-Myers Squibb Center for Science, Teaching and Learning.

“The Alice Peck students will get hands-on experience in conjunction with what they are learning in their own program,” said Jaime Ullinger, assistant professor of anthropology. “They will have the opportunity to visit a real lab at a university and get a sense of what anthropologist actually do. They will learn that anthropology is a real career that they may choose to pursue.”

Quinnipiac students will work alongside the 10- and 11-year-old students.
