Parents and Families Update: September 2023
Off to a Great Start!
September 22, 2023
September 22, 2023
By Tom Ellett
Chief Experience Officer
Dear parents and families,
Thank you for entrusting your student’s education in the hands of Quinnipiac University.
We are extremely grateful to have this year’s students actively involved. The student engagement fair, which took place during the first week of classes, filled the Quad with more than 150 tables and a few thousand students in attendance. If your student hasn’t joined a club, rec team, intramural sport, service opportunity or found a job on campus, please encourage them to meet with a staff member within Campus Life, Residential Life, the Learning Commons, or have them seek out their academic adviser for assistance. It takes a village of staff to support our students and we are all here for them.
There are many things I could highlight throughout the first few weeks of classes, but I will focus on one student-led initiative, which reflects our mantra for co-curricular activities and services “for students by students.”
Please ensure your student is aware that On the Rocks Pub and Grill is now open Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. throughout the academic year. The student-led leadership team brings a student perspective to hiring staff, managing the menu, delivering great entertainment, and helping to make it a student destination for dining. Meal points are accepted for all food and non-alcoholic beverages. It’s a great diversion from our traditional dining halls.
Additionally, On the Rocks becomes Talks on the Rocks once a month. This month, on Tuesday September 26, it is for first-year students, with faculty and staff discussing the transition to college. A free buffet dinner is offered to the first 50 attendees. We hope that your student signs up for these outstanding dinners and conversations that include 10 faculty and 10 staff.
Next up, is Bobcat Weekend! It is only a few weeks away (October 6-7). We hope you have registered, if not, please register online today. We look forward to seeing as many families and alumni as possible.
Finally, our Parent Academy sessions are scheduled over the next six weeks.
Student well-being at Quinnipiac (student health, counseling and wellness support) at 7 p.m. on September 27
Academic and social support at 7 p.m. on October 4
Dining at 7 p.m. on October 11
As always, should you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or any of the experience staff at Quinnipiac.
Sincerely,
Tom Ellett
Chief Experience Officer

Our Joyful event in Café Q was a great success. We partnered with Student Health Services and Mental Health Services on campus and provided resources to students to help everyone settle into campus. We had a Welcome Wall where students filled out what on campus makes them feel at home. We also served up some great eats with vodka sauce pizza and spicy vodka sauce spaghetti.
We had a Love, QU Dining Lemonade golf cart event where we handed out lemonade on a 90-degree day all around campus. Students were so excited for the refreshment on their walks to and from class.
This semester, we opened two new stations in Café Q: Delicious Without and Pom & Honey. Both stations have been a great success with awesome feedback from students. Our Delicious Without station has been particularly impactful as the offerings are prepared without the top 9 major allergens.
Learn more about dining locations
Meal plans are refreshed at the beginning of each semester, and students are able to purchase individually priced items in locations across our three campuses. All items in the dining facilities are sold a la carte (not buffet). Instead of a meal-based system, students pay for each item using the meal points on their Q-Card just as they would in a traditional restaurant.
To assist students with managing their points to ensure they are not over or under using their points, monthly emails are sent to each student on a meal plan. These emails remind the student what plan they are on and their current meal point balance. Explore the resources on the Meal Plan Budgets and Staying on Track page of our website to help stay on track throughout the semester — including mobile and online budget trackers, and mobile ordering apps.
