The event invited participants to enjoy activities including making flower bouquets, candy-bowl creations and tote-bag painting. Alongside shopping at small business pop-up shops including Here For You, Sky Blue Lagoon and 2 Waves in the Sun.
“It felt truly amazing to be able to raise $16,246 in 24 hours," said Director of QTHON Sarah Springer '28. "This is our highest total for a push day since before COVID, and I’m incredibly proud of our internal team’s hard work to achieve this. What’s truly special about Connecticut Children’s is that it welcomes everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. Every dollar we raise significantly impacts countless families, providing them with the treatment, technology, and support they need for the best outcome.”
Here For You founders, Ellie and Emma, shared their personal mental health journeys, creating a powerful connection with participants. They also spoke about the inspiration behind starting Here For You and the company’s mission to remind others that they are not alone.
Emphasizing self-care as a central theme of QTHON Cares, Springer highlighted how the event promoted an important message among participants.
“As college students, it's crucial to acknowledge mental health and foster a safe environment for people to share their struggles and prioritize self care. Many students face mental health challenges, and this event served as an outlet, helping them feel supported and not alone. With our inspiring mental health presentation from Here For You and activities like tote bag painting, friendship bracelets, flower bouquet making and more, we hope that message was spread to all attendees.”
QTHON’s campaign “One Step Closer” was announced at the event, Springer shares that the saying is a powerful reminder of the impact we can make together.
“In our community, every step we take is significant. Every dance move, every hour spent on the dance floor, and every dollar raised brings us one step closer to a cure, one step closer to a miracle, and one step closer to the smiles of children. With each stride we take together, we are one step closer to a world where children are defined by their dreams and talents, not by their illnesses," said Springer.
Looking ahead to QTHON’s main event in the spring, registration week will run from November 11 to 15, featuring a variety of incentives, vendors, and activities planned throughout the week.
