Quinnipiac’s Master of Social Work Program has received the requisite approval from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) to offer a fully online Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.

“We are delighted that the CSWE has approved the online MSW,” said Carol Awasu, director of the MSW Program and chair of the Social Work Department. "This allows us to expand resources for students with family and full-time work responsibilities and empower those who are historically underrepresented in graduate social work education to earn a MSW degree from our exceptional academic institution, Quinnipiac University".

The new program will begin during the spring semester, with both full- and part-time options.

Quinnipiac’s on-ground Master of Social Work (MSW) program has been accredited since 2013. Both programs will offer the same curriculum. Quinnipiac's on-campus and online MSW options, including the MSW Advanced Standing, meet the academic requirements for licensure as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). The MSW program, with on-campus and online formats, is fully accredited by the CSWE. Initial accreditation was granted in March 2016.

“The Department of Social Work’s efforts to expand and enhance the educational opportunities for social work graduate students is an outstanding addition to our School of Health Sciences,” said interim dean Jeff McCubbin. “Without question, there remains a pressing need for more professional social workers to help address a variety of health needs in our community.

“One unique aspect of our program will be to provide more qualified mental health professionals to address this important priority in Connecticut and the nation,” McCubbin added. “It is my belief this program will add value to the range of healthcare professionals being prepared at Quinnipiac University.”
