“We wanted to provide young students with an outlet to express themselves and continue to stimulate creativity,” Awan said. “We feel that it's important to let kids continue to be kids, even when self-quarantining or social distancing.”
The kits, funded by the university, were distributed to families earlier this month at Hamden Middle School and Church Street Elementary School. They contained art supplies, journals and tips for healthy living.
“Not every child has access to different forms of expression, and our hope is to promote positivity during this time of uncertainty,” added Hanif.
Awan and Hanif are health science studies majors living in Hamden. They also are involved with the annual Big Event, a day of community service that connects Quinnipiac students, faculty, staff and alumni with community partners in the Greater New Haven area and beyond.
