Film, television and streaming media companies all over the world need professionals who understand and can manage the production cycle from script development through visual post-production editing and national distribution and marketing. Students enrolled in this unique, 36-credit CPM program will learn technical skills and practical industry knowledge that are typically accumulated over three to five years in the field, giving them a professional advantage.
“This master's program is a leap forward in contemporary, job-centered advanced education for our national, and indeed, international motion image industries,” said Professor Liam O’Brien, chair of film, television and media arts. “It’s also well in keeping with the long Quinnipiac graduate education tradition of creating and instructing impactful, career-centered professional training programs.”
“The new master’s degree in cinematic production management puts the School of Communications at the forefront of what is happening in the industry,” said Chris Roush, dean of the School of Communications. “As film, television and streaming media content continues to explode, Quinnipiac will be producing the future leaders in this field through this program.”
Collaborative and heavily project-based, the CPM curriculum is designed with input from Los Angeles-based veterans of the entertainment industry. It culminates in a senior capstone course requiring students to write, budget and produce a short film they have developed over the course of their studies. Additionally, the majority of CPM courses will be delivered online, making it practical, cost-effective and convenient.
Graduates are fast-tracked to a range of management positions, including production office coordinator and location manager. They also are placed on a clear path toward careers as 1st assistant directors, production managers and other mid-to-upper echelon management jobs.
The CPM program pairs well with a variety of backgrounds, from business to theater. It also complements several undergraduate majors in the School of Communications, including film, television and media arts; media studies and public relations, making it an ideal choice for students in Quinnipiac’s accelerated dual-degree (3+1) and dual-degree (4+1) programs.
The number of students pursuing a bachelor’s degree or bachelor of fine arts degree in film, television and media arts at Quinnipiac has grown exponentially over the past five years. Enrollment in the bachelor’s degree programs, for example, increased from 44 to 177 students from 2015-20. The CPM program is a natural extension of that interest.
