Quinnipiac will launch an outdoor community walking program for senior citizens, a new addition to its current indoor “Bobcat Stride” walking program, with a special kickoff event at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 23.

The program, which is free and open to members of the public 50 years of age and over, will be open on weekdays during daylight hours through the month of August.

“We are delighted to bring North Haven and Hamden town residents to our campus to enjoy the outdoors while engaging in physical fitness and the opportunity to meet other community members,” said Bethany Zemba, vice president for strategy and community relations and chief of staff at QU.

Quinnipiac has mapped out a flat, 1 1/4-mile outdoor walking path on the North Haven Campus, 370 Bassett Road. The program is the extension of a similar indoor walking series that launched in February. The indoor walking path remains open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-8 a.m.

Quinnipiac faculty, staff and students are also welcome to participate. For more information or to register for the program, contact Karla Natale, associate vice president of community partnerships, at karla.natale@qu.edu or (203) 582-5369.

“We have been delighted by the positive response to our indoor Bobcat Stride program and the large number of community members coming to walk,” Natale said. “We heard their feedback and are thrilled to offer an additional outdoor walking path during the summer months.”
