Students can explore the outdoors through Quinnipiac's Recreation and Wellness Center trips featuring activities such as hiking, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and climbing.

There are several trips planned this semester to enable students to experience unique opportunities for adventure across the country.

The fall 2024 trip schedule includes:

  • October 5 through October 6 – backpacking at Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont (free)

  • October 11 through October 13 – canoeing at Delaware Water Gap in Pennsylvania/New Jersey ($50)

  • October 18 through October 20 – hiking and horseback riding in the Catskill Mountains in New York ($55)

  • October 27 – hiking at Devil’s Hopyard State Park in Connecticut (free)

  • November 3 – bouldering at Bald Rock Basin in Connecticut (free)

  • November 23 through November 30 – hiking at Valley of Fire State Park and Grand Canyon National Park in Nevada/Arizona ($700)

Details of the trips can be found on recwell.qu.edu and posted on Instagram (@qurecwell).

The trips vary in length, activity, location and cost. Many of the trips cater to all skill levels and those that require prior experience are noted on the registration page.

While some of the trips are free, others require a fee that covers transportation, lodging, guide permits, equipment (excluding ski/snowboard rentals), parking and entrance fees. Students are expected to cover additional costs including food, personal items and souvenirs.

To further reduce costs for students, the Recreation and Wellness Center created an outdoor aficionado program where students can earn points by participating in various Quinnipiac outdoor activities. Top participants can gain early trip registration and up to 25% off one trip.

“Our trips promote inclusivity, teamwork and a sense of belonging, fostering strong bonds and lasting friendships,” said Emily Foertsch, assistant director of recreation. “These experiences help students build essential skills for personal and professional success, supporting Quinnipiac’s mission to cultivate holistic development, community connection and lifelong engagement with the university.”

While the spring 2025 schedule is being finalized, the spring break trip will be a backpacking adventure in Haleakala National Park, Maui. Spring semster trip registration will open on Tuesday, January 14, at noon.

Students can register for trips on the climbing and outdoors registration page on recwell.qu.edu.
