The School of Computing and Engineering hosted a "hackathon"

The School of Computing and Engineering hosted a hackathon earlier this month designed to increase collaboration in computing disciplines throughout the university. In all, nearly 100 students participated in the event.

At the event, the students learned new programming languages, hardware, software and presentation techniques. They also had the opportunity to network with peers from different backgrounds — and build a network with sponsors and potential employers.

“They worked on real-world problems that are challenging and help develop critical-thinking skills,” said Chetan Jaiswal, associate professor of computer science. “They learned to apply their skills and knowledge to solve a complex problem in a short duration of time.”

In the fall, Jaiswal said he hopes to invite computing students and professors from other universities throughout the state to participate.
