The project implemented a variety of energy efficiencies among the health sciences, law, medicine, and nursing school buildings. As a result, Quinnipiac will save enough energy to power 120 homes each year or remove the equivalent of nearly 300 cars from the road annually.

Olian said undertaking the North Haven Campus project serves to further Quinnipiac’s sustainability commitment across all campuses.

“We’re really proud of the way these buildings on our campuses do reflect sustainability. It’s part of a much larger commitment that we’re all making at Quinnipiac,” said Olian.

In recognition of the project, Olian was presented with an Avangrid Sustainability Achievement Award during a ceremony on the North Haven Campus on November 13.

Avangrid is a sponsor of EnergizeCT, a program of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Two operating companies of Avangrid, United Illuminating and Southern Connecticut Gas, partnered with Quinnipiac and its facilities team to deliver the project’s energy efficiency installations and upgrades.

Erik Robie, Avangrid Director of Customer Programs & Products, remarked on Quinnipiac’s exceptional achievement of securing and implementing nearly $1 million in program incentives. He also thanked Quinnipiac for its years of partnership and for undertaking sustainability projects across all campuses.

“I’m proud of the long-term partnership that we have with Quinnipiac University. I hope that we continue to do these projects well into the future,” said Robie.

Robie said the large project undertaken at the North Haven Campus “moves the dial” in energy efficiency contributions to help meet community and state sustainability targets.

North Haven's first selectman Michael Frieda and Hamden mayor Lauren Garrett shared their appreciation of Quinnipiac’s impact on sustainability in their communities.

Olian thanked Frieda and Garrett for their support and also extended Quinnipiac’s gratitude to State Senator Paul Cicarella, State Representative Dave Yaccarino and State Representative Josh Elliot for their assistance.

“We’re proud of the steps we’re taking to create a more sustainable Quinnipiac University. I promise you, we won’t stop here, despite this very gratifying recognition,” said Olian. “We’ll be doubling down on our commitment to become a model for the university of the future, which is a sustainable model.”
