Larry Slater, PhD, MAc, RN-BC, CNE, FAAN
Dean of the School of Nursing
The mission of the School of Nursing is "to develop exceptional, practice-ready nurses as leaders in science-based, holistic care through innovative and inclusive education". Our vision, "unparalleled nursing education to transform healthcare, one student at a time", is grounded in our core values of belonging, collaboration, compassion, curiosity, and integrity. The School of Nursing brings together top tier talent, including its students, faculty, staff, and administration along with its university, community, and clinical partners in a collaborative, innovative environment that aligns next generation nursing education with an ever-changing healthcare landscape, preparing our graduates to have a transformational impact on healthcare delivery and the health of our communities. An important bridge between the School of Nursing and our vast network of internal and external stakeholders, is the Dean's Advisory Council.
The Dean’s Advisory Council for the School of Nursing plays a vital role in providing guidance, expertise, and support to ensure the success and continued growth of the school’s educational programs and the school’s impact on the health of the communities it serves, not only through its graduates but with its direct engagement and participation with clinical and community partners. The Dean’s Advisory Council members are key partners in shaping the future of nursing education, research, and practice through advisement on the school’s strategic direction and priorities to assure the school stays relevant and future focused. Members serve as ambassadors, advocates, and advisors, helping the school foster collaboration among the academic enterprise, the broader nursing and healthcare industry, and the community.
I am honored to have an extraordinary Council with whom to work. Council members include QU alumni and parents, nursing and nursing education experts, healthcare and industry professionals, and nursing workforce development specialists. This critical mix of individuals will continue to mold the exciting directions the School of Nursing will take over the next several years and beyond.
